One of these companies is SAIC, a Chinese car-maker that will soon start producing its new car, badged as a Roewe and called E1.
The nice-looking compact electric vehicle weights just 1,040 kilograms.
It is powered by lithium ion batteries, which, when fully charged, allow the car to register a range of 84 miles.
The driver will be able to charge the batteries up to 80 percent in about half and hour.
The E1 can reach a speed of 31 miles per hour in 5.5 seconds and 61mph in 62 seconds. The car’s top speed is 75mph. According to SAIC, its new eco-friendly vehicle will be able to score 4 out of 5 stars in the local crash tests, the equivalent of the Euro NCAP crash tests.
The entire electric system, including battery, motor and additional electronics, used in the car was built in house. The vehicle will be officially presented on Friday, April 30.
